Roman Fort at Piercebridge

Class 2 had a fabulous day out at a local historical fort.  The children all safely walked through the village of High Coniscliffe and along the River Tees to the Roman Fort at Piercebridge. When we got there we were met by a Roman citizen, retired from the Roman army!  He led us through Roman marching drills and told us about the life of a Roman soldier.

At lunchtime we enjoyed a roll down the hill into one of the many ditches!

We also had the opportunity to be archaeologists and found out how hard it is to piece together the past, through pottery tasks.  The children took part in some smelling and grinding tasks of herbs and spices the Romans used to flavour their food.

It was a wonderful day and we are very much looking forward to working with an artist all week to make our own Roman shields.
