This year we are doing something a little bit difference for the Easter liturgy. Each class has been working with Liam and his colleagues from Sporting Futures every Tuesday to put the story of Easter to dance.
Each class will perform their section on Tuesday afternoon. Due to space restrictions we cannot invite adults to watch but we hope to video the dances and post on the website afterwards.
House Team Assembly on Thursday 23rd will include our first ever Comedy Cub - all of the children shall help to choose their funniest joke from the top ten shortlist of entries! The child who sent in the winning joke shall be awarded with a special prize but all of the entries will be displayed on this website for everyone to enjoy.
In tandem with British Science Week we have planned a science week in school starting Monday 13th March 2017. The children will engage in fun science activities in the afternoons and rotate around the school to different classes. They will be working on their observational skills and making predictions. They will also be make scientific recordings of how things change over a period of time. We are going to have eggs in school leading up to this event and will be able to see how these hatch and the chicks develop.
As part of this week we are also going to have a famous inventors and scientist day on Thursday 16th March 2017 where we are encouraging the children to dress up as the invention, inventor, scientist or discovery! To enhance this we would like each child to design a poster of any size with illustrations and captions of the invention or discovery and a prize will be given to the best poster from each year group.
To celebrate World Book Day, Mrs Aitken is going to share some of her favourite books in House Team Assembly and encourage the children to write reviews of them to find out if they share her tastes!
We are organising a running event in school on Tuesday 28th February 2017. In the past years 3 to 6 have ran on mass with schools from across Darlington in a 'Go run for fun' event. This year the schools games event has been cancelled. However, nine schools, including ours, have signed up for a mass participation for a fun run on the same day held in their school grounds. To include more participation we are opening this fun run to all pupils in our school and staff.
Myself and Liam have organised a fun run with obstacle elements as well as some team running obstacle challenges. We have chosen to do this run under the theme of ‘colour’. With this in mind some of the obstacles will have a powder paint and crazy string element and your child could end up more colourful than when they first set off! Therefore we ask that all children are appropriately dressed in their old clothes and trainers with colourful accessories if they so wish. The brighter the better!
